Public consultation on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Chhattisgarh High-level meeting held in Durg Social and political organizations gave suggestions on issues such as marriage, divorce, inheritance and live-in relationships Raipur, 08 September 2026 – The UCC committee formed by the state government to make the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) practical, inclusive and user-friendly in Chhattisgarh has started the public consultation process. In this context, on Tuesday, 08 September, a high-level meeting was organized in Durg by the UCC draft committee. The meeting, attended by retired IAS officer Mr. M.K. Raut, senior advocate Mr. Mohan Pawar and retired principal Mrs. (Dr.) Jyoti Rani Singh, involved in-depth discussions on sensitive and important topics such as marriage, divorce, inheritance, maintenance and live-in relationships. Discussion on traditional values and legal reforms During the meeting, representatives of various social, political and religious groups expressed their views openly for and against the UCC. Traditional-social values to modern legislative reforms were discussed, and the committee members assured that all received suggestions will be studied and a draft of the code will be prepared. Active participation of diverse organizations Representatives from various communities and organizations participated, including prominent groups such as Sahu community, Manwa Kurmi community, Kanwar community, Chandranahu Kurmi community, Gondwana Service Committee, Andhra community, Halwa community, Tāmṛkār community, Yadav community, Kandra tribal community and Muslim youth wing officials, Sarv Adivasi community, Gondwana Gond Mahasabha, BSP ST Employees Union, Indian Buddhist Mahasabha and Ram Temple Trust Bemetara representatives. Additionally, senior citizen welfare forums, Pragya Senior Citizens Association, Pensioners Association, Chhattisgarh Chamber of Commerce and Chhattisgarh Mukti Morcha members were among the suggesters. Suggestions also invited through digital means Advocate Prajwal Sharma presented detailed information on the format and provisions of the Uniform Civil Code through a PowerPoint presentation. The committee also shared the official website http://ucc.cgstate.gov.in and email [email protected] to receive suggestions from the public and organizations. The meeting was attended by UCC committee member secretary and Raipur Division Commissioner Shyam Dhavde, Durg Division Commissioner S.N. Rathore, Durg Collector Abhijit Singh, ADM Virendra Singh and SDM Prafull Gupta, along with administrative officials from Durg, Balod and Bemetara districts.
