The lives of thousands of families who once resided in temporary shelters have been transformed, now filled with stability and dignity. Raigarh district of Chhattisgarh has emerged as a model in the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural). Through mission-mode housing construction, Raigarh has become the first district in the state to complete the construction of over 20,000 houses in the year 2024-25. This achievement represents more than just a statistic; it is a vivid realization of the dreams of the underprivileged.
The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana aims to provide every individual with a permanent home for dignified living. The district administration of Raigarh worked with dedication and commitment to transform this objective into reality. The work was carried out in mission mode under the leadership of Collector Shri Mayank Chaturvedi and continuous monitoring by the Chief Executive Officer of the District Panchayat, Shri Jitendra Yadav. A total of 20,067 houses have been completed in the district so far. Most of these families were living in unsafe and dilapidated houses for years. Under the PM Awas Yojana, they not only received a permanent home but also a sense of self-respect and social security.
The district approved 52,226 houses for the year 2024-25, of which the plinth level geo-tagging of 40,152 houses has been completed. Notably, the second installment has also been released to 38,446 beneficiaries, which kept the construction work moving and enabled the timely completion of the target. This success in Raigarh is the result of on-field hard work. CEO Shri Jitendra Yadav stated that the success of the work was due to arrangements like regular field visits, continuous communication with beneficiaries, and quick solutions to problems. Timely payment of installments, technical support, and construction guidance kept the beneficiaries motivated.
The joy of having their own permanent home is evident in the beneficiaries’ eyes. The beneficiaries say that where they were previously troubled by rain and heat in temporary shacks, a strong and safe home has now changed the direction of their lives. Changes are being felt at every level, including children’s education, family respect, and health. Raigarh is now emerging as an inspiration for other districts of the state. It has been proven through planned efforts, timely implementation, and public participation that no goal is impossible if the administration and the public work together.
