Raipur Announces Multi‑Crore Investment to Modernise Irrigation in Balodabazar, Bhatapara and Raipur

On September 7, 2026, Raipur became the hub of a large‑scale irrigation push as the state cleared ₹30.74 crore for seven critical schemes. The funds will be directed toward canal rehabilitation, cement‑concrete lining, structural remodeling and the construction of underground pipelines.

In Balodabazar‑Bhatapara, the Baloda branch canal distributors 11 and 12 are slated to receive ₹4.99 crore, which will modernise irrigation for roughly 339.05 hectares. The Sondhur project’s Bendri distributor canal will benefit from ₹4.82 crore, covering about 355 hectares.

Within Raipur district, the Darsinwa development block under the Mahanadi project will allocate ₹4.20 crore for improvements to the Bhatapara branch canal. Further allocations include ₹4.90 crore for underground hum‑pipe work on Mandhar distributor 14, ₹1.90 crore for a cemented service road, ₹4.92 crore for underground pipelines and concrete road construction on distributors 8 and minor 1, and ₹4.97 crore for comprehensive rehabilitation of distributors 11, 13, 14 and related minors.

The overarching goal is to boost water delivery to the tail‑end areas of canals, improve overall irrigation capacity and provide farmers with a dependable water source for their crops.
