Stormy Weather Expected in Himachal, Uttarakhand and Adjacent States

The Himalayan belt is set to face a bout of severe weather on 17 September. The IMD has placed Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand under a heavy rain‑storm alert, with districts such as Nainital, Pithoragarh and Chamoli in Uttarakhand flagged for intense showers and strong gusts. Several districts across Himachal also face a warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms.

Further north, Jammu and Kashmir’s regions including Poonch, Kulgam, Jammu, Pulwama, Udham Singh Nagar, Kathua, Ganderbal and Kupwara are expected to experience fast‑moving rain‑storm systems.

The alert does not stop at the mountains. Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, eastern Rajasthan, and parts of Madhya Pradesh are all under warnings for heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds. The sub‑Himalayan zones of West Bengal, Sikkim and the Ganga‑Brahmaputra basin may see torrential rain, while Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, and the interior of central India could receive scattered showers.
