*Talks of closing thousands of schools are misleading and baseless*
*Only 166 schools will be adjusted*
*Remaining 10,297 schools will remain fully operational*
*Department said rationalization is an effort to improve the education system*
Raipur, May 31, 2025/ The Education Department has termed the talk of closing thousands of schools due to rationalization by certain organizations and individuals as completely misleading and baseless. The School Education Department has said that the reality is completely different. The objective of the rationalization process issued by the state government is not to stop anyone’s education, but to ensure better use of the quality of education and resources.
Out of a total of 10,463 schools in the state, only 166 schools will be adjusted. Out of these 166 schools, 133 schools in rural areas have less than 10 students and another school is running within a kilometer. Similarly, there are 33 schools in urban areas with less than 30 students and another school is running within a radius of 500 meters. For this reason, 166 schools are being adjusted with the aim of better education, this will not affect the studies of the children in any situation. The remaining 10,297 schools will remain fully operational. Only necessary adjustments are being made at the administrative and academic level. The use of school buildings will continue as before and teachers will also be available where needed.
It is necessary to clarify here that “adjustment” and “closure” of schools are different things. Adjustment means integrating nearby schools and using better resources. Its aim is to provide good education to children, not to close schools. The Education Department has appealed to the people to beware of rumors. The truth is that the state government is engaged in a strong system of strengthening schools, improving the quality of education and providing better education to every child.
*Initiative to strengthen the education system*
Actually, the Chhattisgarh government is rationalizing schools and teachers i.e. making logical adjustments to improve the quality of education in urban and rural areas of the state. Its objective is that where there is more need, better use of resources and teachers is ensured. Those schools which are not able to provide proper education due to fewer students, should be adjusted with nearby good schools, so that children can get a better environment, resources and equal opportunities for studies. This will provide children with more qualified and subject-wise expert teachers. Facilities like library, lab, computer etc. will be available in schools. Sufficient teachers will now be available in schools with a shortage of teachers. Those schools which earlier had only a few students, will now be able to get better education by going to nearby good schools. The standard of education will improve in both rural and urban areas due to this change.
The government’s intention is clear, every child should get good and quality education. This is the reason that the government is ensuring that the deployment of teachers is done not only on the basis of numbers but also on the basis of need. The Chhattisgarh Education Department believes that this step is not just an administrative reform, but a concrete change in the field of education, which will give a strong foundation to the coming generation.
