Temporary Change in Meeting Arrangement at Central Jail Raipur for Security Reasons

Raipur – In the Central Jail Raipur, during meetings with inmates last month, some relatives attempted to smuggle prohibited items hidden in daily-use materials into the jail premises. Due to intensive searches by jail authorities and vigilant security arrangements, all such attempts were thwarted and the prohibited materials were seized and appropriate action taken. According to information obtained by the author from Central Jail Raipur, keeping security and discipline in view and aiming to make security more robust, the jail administration has, as a precaution, arranged for selected daily-use items to be purchased from the jail canteen and provided to inmates. All other approved items may continue to be supplied by the inmates' relatives as per existing regulations. This arrangement is entirely temporary and its purpose is solely to establish effective control over the possible entry of prohibited materials into the jail and to further strengthen the security setup. All items made available in the jail canteen are of good quality and their rates have been set lower than normal market rates, so that the inmates' relatives do not incur any additional financial burden.
