A shocking incident occurred in Nahanda village of Balod district, where a senior citizen woman, who sustains herself through begging, had 2.54 lakh rupees stolen from her home. The incident took place while the woman was away from home to celebrate the Teej festival. An unknown thief took advantage of the empty house and committed the crime. Deori police have registered a case based on the victim’s complaint and initiated an investigation.
Amrit Vaishnav, a resident of Nahanda village who earns her livelihood by begging, stated that she has no children. She goes from village to village, begging and thus making her living. On July 29, 2024, she had sold a portion of her residence to Jitendra Patel of the village for 2.50 lakh rupees. In addition, she also had 4,000 rupees collected from begging. She had kept this entire amount inside a steel box within a trunk in her house, secured with two locks.
The woman reported that on August 25, 2025, around 3 pm, she locked the main door of her house and went to the home of Home Giri Maharaj in Piparkhar village to celebrate the Teej festival. When she returned at 4 pm on August 27, she found the main door lock broken. Upon inspection inside, both locks of the trunk were found broken along with their latches, and the 2.50 lakh rupees kept in it and the 4,000 rupees kept in the bag were missing.
Upon receiving information about the incident, Amrit Vaishnav informed the people around her and the village Kotwar. After this, she went to the Deori police station and lodged a complaint. Station in-charge Rakesh Thakur said that a case has been registered against the unknown thief based on the woman’s complaint. The police inspected the crime scene and started an investigation.
