In Ambikapur, Surguja district of Chhattisgarh, two mares were euthanized via lethal injection after being diagnosed with Glanders disease. The mares were of the Sanjal breed. Veterinary officials administered the injection following established protocols after the disease was confirmed. The bodies were buried in Bhittikla, near the city. Glanders affects horses, mules, and donkeys, and can also infect humans. The animals belonged to a resident of Nawapara, who used horses and mares for events. One mare initially showed symptoms, and the other was with her.
