A heartbreaking incident occurred in Chirauti village on Tuesday. Two young cousins drowned in the Tesua drain near the village while they were bathing. The entire village is in mourning following the tragedy.
The deceased girls have been identified as 6-year-old Rabia Joshi, daughter of Anoop Joshi (Class 1), and 7-year-old Ankita Joshi, daughter of Sanjay Joshi (Class 2). The girls were cousins and had gone to bathe with two other children from the village.
Children often go to the Tesua drain to bathe and play during the summer. On Tuesday, the two sisters went there with their friends. While bathing in the drain, they slipped and fell into the deep water. The other two children ran to the village, screaming, and informed the villagers about the incident. When the villagers pulled the children out and tried to take them to the hospital, it was too late. Upon receiving the information, the Sargawa police reached the spot, completed the inquest procedure, and handed over the bodies to the families after the post-mortem examination.
The village is now shrouded in silence after this painful incident. The families are inconsolable, and the villagers are also shocked by the accident and are asking a single question – could this accident have been avoided if the children had been watched?
This incident once again raises serious questions about the safety of children. The innocent faces that once used to laugh in the streets of Chirauti village have now gone silent forever.
