Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the three-day 60th DGP/IGP Conference in Raipur, Chhattisgarh.
In his address, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the DGP/IGP Conference has emerged as a forum for resolving internal security issues of the country, from problem-solving and strategizing to policy-making.
Referring to the Modi government’s actionable points against the complete eradication of Naxalism, the Home Minister said that the central government has strengthened the security cordon by building 586 fortified police stations in the last 7 years, and as a result, the number of Naxal-affected districts has come down from 126 in 2014 to just 11 today. The Union Home Minister expressed confidence that the country will be completely free from the problem of Naxalism before the next DGP/IGP Conference.
Shri Amit Shah said that the country has been facing the problem of Naxalism for the last 40 years. He stated that the Modi government has provided a permanent solution for the three ‘hotspots’ that have become a scourge for the country – Naxalism, the North-East, and Jammu and Kashmir – and soon these regions will be like the rest of the country. Highlighting the achievements of the Modi government, the Home Minister said that laws like the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) have been strengthened, and along with three new criminal laws, strong laws for narcotics and fugitives have been made. He added that after the full implementation of the three new criminal laws, India’s policing will become the most modern in the world.
Recalling the Modi government’s actions against terrorism and extremism, the Union Home Minister said that after banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), raids were conducted on its premises across the country and arrests were made, which serves as an excellent example of center-state coordination. He stated that security forces and the police are striking hard against fanaticism, extremism, and narcotics by working on three points: Accuracy of Intelligence, Clarity of Objective, and Synergy of Action.
The Home Minister reiterated that we need to launch a 360-degree attack on narcotics and organized crime to create a system where narco-traders and criminals get no space in this country. He said that the time has come for state police forces to work with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) to launch a strong crackdown on state, national, and international level drug gangs and put their kingpins in jail.
