Urban Waste Turned Into Clean Fuel as CBG Plants Roll Out in Raipur, Bilaspur and More

The eight municipal corporations selected for the pilot include Raipur, Bilaspur, Bhilai, Durg, Korba, Rajnandgaon, Jagdalpur and Ambikapur. In each city, the CBG facility will receive mixed organic waste collected through existing municipal services.

The conversion process compresses the biogas into a high‑energy fuel that can be used in transport, power generation and industrial boilers. This approach provides a sustainable alternative to fossil‑based LPG and diesel, lowering greenhouse‑gas emissions while addressing the chronic challenge of solid‑waste disposal in fast‑growing urban areas.

Local authorities expect the plants to reduce landfill volumes, limit illegal dumping, and create a circular‑economy model where waste becomes a valuable resource.
