The monsoon arrived early in India this year, making its presence felt on May 24th. However, its progress slowed down for a few days. Now, after a period of stagnation, the southwest monsoon has regained momentum. People in many states are eagerly awaiting the monsoon to get relief from the scorching heat.
While pre-monsoon showers are occurring in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and several other states, the actual monsoon is still awaited. The Meteorological Department predicts that the monsoon could arrive in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal within the next two days. In the national capital, the monsoon is expected to arrive by the end of the week.
**Monsoon Reaches Khargone, Madhya Pradesh**
As of Monday, the monsoon had advanced from Mumbai to Vadodara in Gujarat and Khargone in Madhya Pradesh, covering a distance of approximately 425 kilometers. It has also progressed into Vidarbha in Maharashtra, parts of Chhattisgarh, and Odisha. The monsoon is likely to advance further into the remaining parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh in the next two days, along with reaching UP, Bihar, Jharkhand, and West Bengal.
**Below-Average Rainfall in the First Half of June**
By the end of the week, the monsoon could reach Delhi, along with Rajasthan, western Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana. It is expected to arrive in Himachal Pradesh between June 21-23 and in Punjab by June 30. After making its onset on May 24th, the monsoon had swiftly crossed all southern states, reaching Mumbai in Maharashtra and all northeastern states within the next two days. However, it stalled after May 26th, leading to 12 days of below-average rainfall in the first half of June.

A cyclonic circulation has formed over the Maharashtra coast in the Arabian Sea and is moving towards Gujarat. Simultaneously, another cyclonic circulation has formed in the Bay of Bengal, moving westward. This will travel through Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, and MP before reaching Rajasthan.
