In a heartbreaking incident in the Balrampur district of Chhattisgarh, a woman and her two-year-old son drowned in an overflowing drain while returning from her maternal home to her in-laws’ place. The tragic event occurred in the Sahi Tongri village of the Shankargarh police station area, sending shockwaves through the community following the untimely deaths of the mother and child.
Reports indicate that Rajni Korwa (wife of Kishun Korwa), a resident of Amgaon, had been at her maternal home for some days. On Monday, she was en route back to her in-laws’ residence with her two-year-old son. While attempting to cross an overflowing drain in the Sahi Tongri area, both were swept away by the strong current.
Upon receiving the information, the Shankargarh police arrived at the scene. After a significant effort, the bodies of the mother and son were recovered from the river. The bodies were then sent for post-mortem examination, and the family was notified.
The untimely deaths of Rajni and her son have deeply saddened their family and the villagers. This event once again raises the question of the safety measures in place on such dangerous routes during the monsoon season.
