Chidambaram urges Election Commission to make voter audit transparent

In a pointed statement, Congress parliamentarian Karti Chidambaram demanded that the Election Commission overhaul the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) mechanism to become fully transparent and voter‑centric. She emphasized that while it is legitimate to delete names of deceased or relocated individuals, the current sweep appears to target large sections of the electorate, potentially undermining democratic participation. Citing the issuance of notices to senior figures such as Kapil Sibal and Arvind Kejriwal, she warned that ordinary voters could face similar disenfranchisement. Chidambaram called for clear guidelines, real‑time public updates, and an appeal process that ensures every eligible citizen retains the right to vote.
