In Domri village, Uttar Pradesh, a conflict has arisen between local farmers and the municipal corporation. The disagreement centers around the corporation’s plan to plant trees on 350 bighas of government land. The situation has escalated to the point where approximately one hundred families are fighting for their survival. This issue is particularly sensitive because Prime Minister Modi adopted Domri village in 2017. The municipal corporation’s actions, including demolition of some homes and the eviction of residents, have sparked protests. Farmers, some of whom have been cultivating the land for three generations, claim they possess land registry papers. The corporation, however, maintains the land is government property. The farmers initiated a sit-in protest, with 150 women and 300 men participating, vowing to continue until their concerns are addressed.
