Following a cabinet meeting, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has announced a series of significant measures to aid those affected by the recent floods. The decisions are aimed at providing relief to both flood-affected residents and farmers. The government has implemented a state-wide ‘Whose Field, Whose Sand’ policy, allowing farmers to sell accumulated sand from their fields caused by the floods. Additionally, the government will provide compensation of ₹20,000 per acre for crop damage, which the government claims is the highest compensation offered in the country. Families who lost loved ones in the floods will receive ₹4 lakh in compensation, and financial assistance will also be provided to those whose homes were damaged. Farmers with loans from Punjab Co-operative Banks will have a six-month moratorium on loan installments, with no interest accruing during this period.
