Following a lathi charge incident at the Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial University in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, which occurred on Monday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken swift action. The incident, which resulted in injuries to approximately 25 students and ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) activists, has sparked political controversy. State Minister Satish Chandra Sharma visited the district hospital late Monday to check on the injured. In response to the incident, CM Yogi ordered strict action. CO Nagar Harshit Chauhan has been removed from his post. Additionally, the Kotwali in-charge Ramkishan Rana, along with the entire police force at the Gadiya police post, has been transferred. The investigation into the lathi charge has been assigned to Inspector General of Police, Ayodhya Range, Praveen Kumar. The Ayodhya Commissioner and Inspector General of Police visited Ram Swaroop University to investigate the incident, gathering evidence related to the degree-related issues and the lathi charge. CM Yogi expressed his displeasure during a cabinet meeting and has requested detailed reports on the degree matters from the Ayodhya Commissioner and a comprehensive report on the lathi charge from the IG Ayodhya. Inspector General of Police Praveen Kumar stated that they are investigating the matter and strict action will be taken against those found responsible. The incident has led to significant outrage among ABVP activists and students. On Tuesday, students and activists attempted to gherao the Vidhan Sabha in Lucknow, leading to minor force by the police and the detention of several activists who were taken to Eco Garden. The opposition, including Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav, has criticized the Yogi government, with Yadav sharing a video of the lathi charge on social media, calling it a sign of the government’s failure.
