Community Outcry as Hyderabad Guard Charged with Child Murder

Residents of the Villa Orchids gated colony in Hyderabad erupted in anger after police arrested a former security guard on charges of kidnapping and murdering a five‑year‑old girl named Aurelia. The suspect, identified as Vikram Kumar, was taken into custody by the Malakazgiri Police Commissioner following his confession that he abducted the child, demanded a ransom of INR 20 lakh, and later killed her. The grim discovery of the child's body inside a water tank at the community’s club house prompted an immediate public outcry. Protesters converged on the police commissioner's office, chanting slogans such as “She deserved to live,” “Justice for Aurelia now,” and “No clemency for cruelty.” Law enforcement officials, including Deputy Commissioner Shridhar Choudhary, called for calm and promised a swift judicial process. The commissioner assured that a fast‑track court would hear the case, and that the death penalty would be considered if warranted. According to the investigation, Kumar had been employed as a guard in the same gated community until October 6. He allegedly seized the child on the night of October 5, and when the family failed to meet his monetary demand, he disposed of her body in the community’s water tank. The victim’s father, Milton Fernandes Moses, a private‑sector agricultural scientist, received a threatening call demanding the ransom. After the line was disconnected on a follow‑up call, the family sought police assistance. The police formed special teams, analyzed call logs, and conducted extensive searches in the vicinity of Sikandarabad railway station and surrounding areas, eventually locating the child's remains.
