Congress Demands Accountability as Delimitation Bill Stalls

New Delhi, August 5 – In a vivid display of parliamentary rivalry, Congress leaders pressed the government to clarify its position on the delimitation bill, accusing it of evading accountability.

KC Venugopal recounted a recent conversation with Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju, noting that the minister offered vague assurances without any substantive plan. "Our stance is unwavering, just as it was in the last session. The opposition will not tolerate any attempts to mislead," Venugopal declared.

The opposition also questioned circulating rumors about a special session to push the delimitation agenda, pointing out that the bill’s architect had yet to appear on the floor. Venugopal demanded a transparent agenda before the party could formulate a response.

Lawmaker Tanushree Puniya emphasized Congress’s willingness to debate any subject, including the FIRCA and delimitation, while also promising to expose governmental deficiencies. "If we cannot scrutinize the government, the very essence of opposition disappears," she said.

Rajiv Shukla raised concerns that the government was limiting the opposition’s remarks during a discussion on the judiciary, suggesting a systematic effort to control parliamentary discourse.

Deependra Singh Hooda diverted attention to alleged financial mismanagement within a temple trust, linking it to individuals linked to the ruling party.
