The Patiala House Court in Delhi has rejected the anticipatory bail plea of Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati. During the hearing, Delhi Police informed the court that Chaitanyananda Saraswati had claimed to be a United Nations representative. The Swami had sought anticipatory bail in a case of alleged financial irregularities. The Delhi court, however, dismissed his plea.
The court’s order stated that the nature of the accusations warranted custodial interrogation at this stage of the investigation. The order came after the court reserved its decision on the anticipatory bail plea of the self-proclaimed religious leader, against whom a case of alleged fraud, forgery, and criminal conspiracy has been registered.
