The Ghaziabad Traffic Police has initiated lane restrictions on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway, starting from Saturday at 10 PM, to facilitate the Kanwar Yatra. The lane from Meerut to Delhi will be exclusively for Kanwariyas returning from Uttarakhand. Simultaneously, heavy vehicles will be prohibited, while light vehicles, including cars and two-wheelers, will be permitted from Delhi towards Meerut. The measures are expected to be in effect until the conclusion of the Kanwar Yatra, possibly around July 23rd or 24th. This decision anticipates the arrival of numerous postal Kanwariyas in Ghaziabad. Vehicles from Meerut will be redirected to National Highway-9 (NH-9). Restrictions on heavy vehicles, previously enforced on the three main Kanwar routes from July 11, will remain in place. The Kanwar Yatra route within Ghaziabad spans 25 km from Muradnagar to Tila Mor, and 42.5 km from the Kadarabad border to the Delhi-Ghaziabad border, incorporating an alternative route of approximately 53 km on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and National Highway-9. Heavy vehicles will be permitted to enter NH-9 only from UP Gate, utilizing the Eastern Peripheral Expressway to reach their destinations. Traffic restrictions on the Delhi-Meerut Road will remain as before. The route from Meerut to Ghaziabad will be reserved for Kanwariyas, while the opposite direction will be open for general traffic. The traffic police have identified 12 locations prone to traffic congestion, where temporary stoppages will be implemented to ensure the safe passage of Kanwariyas. Traffic flow will resume as normal once they have passed.
