Rainfall Peaks in Delhi’s NCR; Authorities Deploy Resources

The capital region has been under a spell of relentless rain for the last 24 hours, prompting authorities to intensify their flood‑prevention measures. The CM’s office confirmed that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has placed the Water Board, Public Works Department and the Delhi Municipal Corporation on a full‑scale alert.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the highest rainfall was recorded at Mayur Vihar with 103 mm, followed closely by Delhi University (90 mm) and Mehrauli (86 mm). Other areas such as Pusa, Lodhi Road, the Ridge and Safdarjung saw totals between 70 and 83 mm, while Chattarpur, Palam and Naraina registered 72‑63 mm.

Teams from the water board, the PWD and municipal engineers are now stationed at critical junctions to clear blockages, operate pumps and keep drainage channels functional. The government describes the operation as a "war‑time" effort to avert widespread disruption.

Even with these interventions, water has pooled at locations like New Delhi Railway Station, Munirka and a few inner‑city colonies. Additionally, fallen trees have blocked key thoroughfares near the ISKCON temple in East Kailash and on Guru Ravidas Marg in Govindpuri, causing temporary traffic snarls that police are managing through diversions.
