DMRC Boosts Train Frequency to Cut Private Car Dependence

Delhi Metro has taken a decisive step toward sustainable urban mobility by raising the number of extra train trips from six to 24. The move is designed to offer commuters a dependable alternative to driving, especially during rush hours when road congestion is highest. Officials emphasize that the decision is part of a broader strategy to make public transport the first choice for daily travel. To accommodate growing ridership, DMRC has prepared a comprehensive operational plan. Security staff numbers are being increased, more ticket counters and baggage scanners are being set up, and station layouts are being optimized for faster passenger movement. These measures are intended to maintain service quality even as daily footfall rises. The metro’s integration with other transport modes is also being strengthened. Direct connections now exist with airports, railway stations, and inter-state bus terminals, while the Namo Bharat RRTS, Noida Metro, and Gurgaon Rapid Metro extend reach beyond city limits. At 160 stations, integrated last-mile services including e-rickshaws, bike taxis, and cycle rentals are available through the Metro Saarthi app. Digital payment and booking systems further reduce friction. Passengers can purchase tickets via WhatsApp, use the National Mobility Card, or complete door-to-door journeys through one unified interface. Combined with 1,500 DTC feeder buses and parking facilities at 126 stations, the expanded network offers a practical, eco-friendly option that discourages private vehicle use.
