Dr. Sohanlal Ary Highlights Skepticism About Mediation Success in Gyan Vapi Case

During a press briefing on July 14, Dr. Sohanlal Ary, representing the Hindu claimants in the Gyan Vapi dispute, expressed doubt about the efficacy of the mediation ordered by the Supreme Court. He noted that the court’s directive covers four separate cases, all of which have their parties present at the upcoming session in Varanasi’s district court recreation hall.

“The enthusiasm is there, but history shows that such mediated settlements rarely endure,” Ary said. He referenced the Ram Janmabhoomi settlement, suggesting that similar attempts at compromise have often faltered.

Despite his skepticism, Ary affirmed the Hindu side’s commitment to participate fully, emphasizing that the evidence — including the ASI’s archaeological findings — supports the claim that the structure is a temple. He urged the Muslim representatives to come forward in person rather than merely sending legal counsel, arguing that a genuine dialogue is essential for any lasting resolution.

The mediation will be heavily guarded, with law enforcement ensuring the safety of participants as both sides prepare to lay out their arguments before a neutral facilitator.
