The Election Commission is in active mode in Bihar, with upcoming assembly elections this year. The commission has released a list of registered unrecognized political parties and has sought their responses. The deadline has been set by the commission.
The notification issued by the Chief Electoral Officer clarifies that registered unrecognized political parties that haven’t contested any elections since 2019 are under scrutiny. Despite receiving various benefits and facilities under the Representation of the People Act, 1951, these parties are being questioned. The commission has stated that after receiving their explanations, these political parties could be delisted.
The commission has requested all these political parties to present their stance before the Chief Electoral Officer of Bihar by 3 p.m. on September 1st. Evidence should also be provided so that a report can be sent from this office level to the Election Commission of India.
