In a heart-wrenching ceremony at Lucknow's Baikunth Dham, Prateek Yadav merged with the five elements on Thursday. The BJP leader, married to Aparna Yadav and brother to SP head Akhilesh Yadav, drew a cross-party crowd of mourners to Bhaishakund crematorium. The rites began with a grand procession from his home, where thousands marched chanting slogans in his memory. The bier paused outside the SP office, adhering to age-old customs, before proceeding to the ghats. Arvind Bisht, Prateek's father-in-law and former senior journalist, performed the mukhagni amid visible distress. His tearful pranam set the tone for the deeply moving event. Akhilesh Yadav, visibly emotional, joined Dharmendra and Aditya in the final rituals, stacking logs on the pyre. Aparna Yadav, flanked by daughters Prathma and Padmaja, bore the brunt of the sorrow. Even Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak paid his respects, highlighting political rivalries taking a backseat to familial bonds. Prateek's affinity for animals was evident in the funeral arrangements—a photo of him with his beloved dogs and monkey adorned the vehicle, evoking widespread emotion. The night before, Aparna kept watch over his remains with their children. Prominent figures like Keshav Prasad Maurya, Dimple Yadav, and others had earlier condoled at the residence. Aditya Yadav shouldered the coffin, while supporters' chants echoed through Lucknow's streets.
