Jammu and Kashmir Police have apprehended a terrorist over-ground worker (OGW) utilizing a newly implemented Facial Recognition System (FRS) near Pahalgam in the Anantnag district, marking a significant security success ahead of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY-2025). The individual was detected at the Langanbal Naka checkpoint. The suspect, a resident of Seer Hamdan, with a prior FIR from 2005, was subsequently taken into custody by Police Station Pahalgam. This marks the first instance in the Valley where FRS technology has been used to detain an OGW. Electronic surveillance has been significantly enhanced along all pilgrimage routes, and the routes from Pahalgam and Baltal have been declared no-flying zones for the upcoming Yatra, with helicopter services suspended due to security concerns. The police emphasized the deterrent effect of this action against potential threats during the yatra.
