National Conference President Farooq Abdullah has strongly criticized the Election Commission’s decision to conduct a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, labeling it as a violation of the Constitution. Speaking at a party event in Kulgam, South Kashmir, Abdullah expressed deep concerns about the implications of the move, arguing it undermines democratic rights. He emphasized that the revision contradicts the principles established by B.R. Ambedkar, which guarantee every citizen’s right to vote. Abdullah cautioned that implementing these practices could provoke widespread protests across the country. He also raised concerns about the logistical challenges faced by over 1.5 crore Biharis working outside the state in registering to vote or providing necessary documentation. Abdullah accused the Election Commission of acting to serve political interests, urging people to remain vigilant against such actions and warning of potential agitation to protect constitutional rights. The Election Commission had previously announced plans for a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, citing rapid urbanization, migration, and the need to remove ineligible names. The last revision in Bihar was conducted in 2003, with elections scheduled for later this year.
