Satyapal Malik, the former governor of Jammu and Kashmir, has passed away at Delhi’s Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital following a prolonged illness. The hospital administration confirmed that Malik died at 1:10 pm on Tuesday. His PS, KS Rana, also confirmed the news. Malik’s tenure as governor of J&K occurred from August 2018 to October 2019, a period that included the revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019. This date marks the sixth anniversary of that significant decision. He subsequently served as governor of Goa and then Meghalaya until October 2022. Malik’s political career began in the 1970s as a socialist leader. He was elected as an MLA from Baghpat in 1974, representing the Bharatiya Kranti Dal, and later served as the general secretary of the Lok Dal. He also represented Uttar Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha from 1980 to 1989.
