The Integrated Manufacturing Cluster (IMC) in Gaya, part of the Amritsar Kolkata Industrial Corridor (AKIC), is set to become Bihar’s largest industrial township. Spanning 1670 acres in the Dobhi block of Sherghati, the project will cost ₹1339 crore, including ₹462.14 crore for land acquisition. This industrial node is expected to draw significant manufacturing investments, create substantial employment opportunities, and boost regional development. The state government has already acquired the land, and the Chief Secretary has directed that the selection of an agency be finalized by the end of March 2026. The EPC tender is scheduled for the first week of July 2025, and is being developed in consultation with the National Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (NICDC). The project aims to attract ₹16,524 crore in investments and generate over 109,000 jobs. The IMC will focus on sectors like agro and food processing, readymade garments, and technical industries, including auto components, steel-based products, aerospace, defense, building materials, furniture, handloom, and handicrafts. The project received approval from the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on August 28, 2024, and environmental clearance on March 18, 2025. A special purpose vehicle, Bihar Integrated Manufacturing City Gaya Ltd (BIMCGL), was incorporated on January 6, 2025. Furthermore, the state government has approved a 7 km green field alignment connecting the site with the Golden Quadrilateral at an estimated cost of ₹142 crore and has implemented several policy reforms to ease business operations. The presence of UNESCO World Heritage sites in Gaya along with the availability of skilled manpower and educational institutions will further contribute to the development of this industrial hub.
