A woman driving in Navi Mumbai experienced a harrowing incident when her car followed Google Maps directions into a ditch on Friday morning. The driver, en route from Belapur to Ulwe, was navigating using the app when it led her astray. Instead of guiding her across the Bay Bridge in Belapur, Google Maps directed her along a route beneath the bridge, ultimately leading her into a waterbody at Dhruvatara Jetty. Security officials quickly responded, rescuing the woman and extracting the vehicle from the ditch. The driver sustained no injuries.
This incident is part of a pattern of Google Maps glitches causing precarious situations. Earlier, a similar incident resulted in three fatalities when a car using the app’s navigation drove onto a damaged bridge and plunged into a river in Faridpur. Google has stated it is assisting with the investigation of the incidents.
