State Drives Waste Disposal and File Management in Offices Ahead of Gandhi Jayanti

Gandhinagar, September 22 – In line with the upcoming Gandhi Jayanti, Gujarat is rolling out a focused clean‑up drive across its government offices. The "Swachhata Hi Seva‑2026" campaign emphasizes the safe disposal of scrap, e‑waste and other redundant items while enforcing stricter file management.

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel announced that the programme will run from September 17 through October 17. Over this period, each office will be examined on a 100‑point scale that rewards the removal of pending files (20 points), proper categorisation of records (30 points) and overall cleanliness and waste elimination (50 points).

All secretariat divisions, departmental heads in Gandhinagar and offices at the district and taluka levels are included. District collectors will coordinate the effort at the district level, with taluka officers supervising at the sub‑district level.

Offices must file a post‑audit report detailing cleared files, classified records, space reclaimed, scrap sold and any revenue earned. Reports, along with photographs and supporting documents, are due by October 31. A high‑level committee will assess the information and publish the final rankings by November 30. Successful offices will be recognized with certificates on December 25, providing the state with a comprehensive dataset on waste reduction and record‑keeping improvements.
