Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has instructed officials to bolster drainage systems across the state, citing concerns about potential flooding during the monsoon season. This directive follows a review of water drainage preparations with district officials, emphasizing the need for readiness. Key measures include collecting pump set data and thoroughly cleaning drains, especially in flood-prone areas like Gurugram, Faridabad, Ambala, and Kurukshetra. The Chief Minister is ensuring the functionality of pump sets from the Public Health Engineering and Irrigation Departments. The state is also focused on promptly addressing water drainage complaints to prevent waterlogging, given recent incidents in Ambala and Charkhi Dadri. This focus comes amidst severe devastation in North India due to heavy rainfall, including significant damage and casualties in Himachal Pradesh and widespread waterlogging in neighboring states. The India Meteorological Department has forecast continued heavy rain, highlighting the importance of these proactive measures.
