Heavy rainfall has caused significant disruption in central and north India, leading to widespread traffic problems and severe waterlogging. Himachal Pradesh was among the worst-affected areas, experiencing cloudbursts, flash floods, and landslides that severely impacted daily life. Tragically, at least 69 fatalities have been reported in Himachal due to rain-related incidents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red and orange alerts for several states, warning of extremely heavy rain in the coming days.
States under Red Alert include Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Those under Orange Alert include Jharkhand, Haryana, and Mumbai. The IMD has also predicted torrential rains for Delhi, Bengaluru, and Rajasthan. Residents in Himachal’s Mandi district are experiencing discomfort due to the sultry weather, compounded by road blockages caused by intense showers and landslides.
Over the next 48 hours, heavy rains are anticipated to affect Uttarakhand, East Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, West Rajasthan, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and Jammu & Kashmir. The Met Department indicates the southwest monsoon will remain active over the western Himalayan region and the plains for the next seven days. Authorities are urging residents to exercise caution, take necessary precautions to protect themselves from rain-related incidents, and stay updated with the latest IMD weather bulletins. It is advised to seek shelter in safe locations, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay away from electrical hazards.
