Leaders from 11 political parties, representing the INDIA bloc, convened with the Election Commission of India (ECI) to express their strong disapproval of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. The delegation characterized the revision as a severe infringement on the fundamental principles of the Constitution. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, part of the delegation, questioned the timing of the SIR, which is being carried out just months before the forthcoming Assembly elections. He pointed out that the last revision was conducted in 2003, and questioned the necessity of a new revision exercise so close to the elections. Singhvi warned that the rushed revision process could lead to distorted electoral rolls, thereby posing a direct threat to constitutional democracy. RJD MP Manoj Jha and CPI General Secretary D Raja also raised concerns, including the potential exclusion of voters due to documentation issues and the challenges posed by the upcoming monsoon season.
