The Indian Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has welcomed the scheduled meeting between the United States and the Russian Federation, set to take place in Alaska on August 15, concerning the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The MEA conveyed its belief that this meeting could potentially facilitate an end to the conflict and foster prospects for peace. A spokesperson for the Ministry emphasized the significance of the meeting in bringing the conflict to a resolution and establishing conditions for peace. The spokesperson also reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s stance, highlighting that ‘This is not an era of war.’ India, therefore, has expressed its endorsement of the upcoming summit and its readiness to support these efforts. US President Donald Trump announced the meeting via a Truth Social post, indicating that it would focus significantly on efforts to broker a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine. Trump, speaking at the White House during the signing of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace accord, suggested progress in negotiations related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, stating that a deal was nearing completion and that discussions regarding territorial adjustments would occur.
