The Union Minister of State for Science and Technology highlighted India’s advancements in the space sector, noting that scientific experiments conducted by an Indian astronaut on the International Space Station (ISS) were entirely developed within India. This achievement is considered a significant step towards self-reliance. The minister also revealed the nation’s ambitious plans for lunar exploration to the Lok Sabha. Specifically, the goal is for an Indian astronaut to land on the Moon by the year 2040. These endeavors include research in life sciences, agriculture, biotechnology, and cognitive science, with benefits extending to healthcare, agricultural reforms, disaster management, and urban planning. India has established collaborations with major space agencies like NASA, Axiom Space, and SpaceX. Upcoming missions include the launch of a humanoid robot called Vyommitra in 2026 and the first Indian astronaut under the Gaganyaan program in 2027. The nation is also aiming to establish its own space station by 2035. The minister expressed optimism that, before 2047, a young Indian will herald the arrival of a developed India from the Moon. With a blend of indigenous technology and international partnerships, India is making its mark in space science and emerging as a leading space power globally.
