Security agencies across the country are on high alert in anticipation of Independence Day. Simultaneously, adversaries are making concerted efforts to breach security arrangements. However, their plans are failing to materialize. The army has foiled an infiltration attempt on the Line of Control (LoC) in the border areas in the lead-up to Independence Day. During the ensuing encounter between the army and terrorists, a soldier was martyred. A search operation is currently underway by the army.
The infiltration attempt occurred in the Uri sector of Baramulla district in Jammu and Kashmir, specifically in the village of Chirunda. Security forces successfully thwarted the attempt in time. Reports indicate that a soldier was martyred in the encounter between terrorists and the army. The encounter is still ongoing. The army has cordoned off the entire area and initiated a search operation. Gunfire can be distinctly heard in the surrounding areas during the encounter.
Several encounters have taken place in various areas of Jammu and Kashmir over the past week. Security forces are ensuring that there are no lapses, given the upcoming Independence Day celebrations.
Encounters occurred in three locations.
A week prior, encounters occurred simultaneously in three locations in Kishtwar, Kathua, and Baramulla in Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces achieved significant success in the Chak Tapper Kreeri Pattan area of Baramulla, where they eliminated four terrorists. The army also recovered ammunition at the time. Two soldiers were martyred and two others were injured last week. This is the second major incident within a week in the Jammu and Kashmir region where army soldiers have been martyred.
