A bill concerning the removal of Prime Ministers and Chief Ministers arrested on serious criminal charges and held in custody for 30 days has been sent to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). Despite initial strong objections from opposition MPs, it has been decided that the opposition will participate in the JPC formed to discuss the bill. It is likely that the names of the committee members will be announced by this evening. The bill, which includes provisions related to the removal of PMs and CMs, faced significant opposition in both houses of Parliament after its introduction. Following the opposition’s concerns, Home Minister Amit Shah proposed sending the bill to the JPC for detailed discussion. Subsequently, both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha approved the proposal to send the bill to the JPC.
