Congress MP Jairam Ramesh criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding the Pahalgam attack and Operation Sindoor, drawing a comparison to former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s response to the 1999 Kargil War. Ramesh highlighted Vajpayee’s establishment of a Kargil Review Committee, chaired by K. Subrahmanyam, and the subsequent parliamentary discussion of its report. He contrasted this with the current government, suggesting a different political climate. Ramesh also noted that the perpetrators of the Pahalgam terror attacks in April 2025 have not been brought to justice and pointed out the lack of an all-party meeting chaired by the Prime Minister. Additionally, Ramesh cited revelations from the Chief of Defence Staff, General Anil Chauhan, regarding tactical mistakes during the initial days of Operation Sindoor and the concerns raised by Group Captain Shiv Kumar regarding political interference in military operations. He also mentioned Lt Gen Rahul R Singh’s claims about China’s involvement. Ramesh further criticized the Centre over US President Donald Trump’s claims of brokering a ceasefire, adding that Trump has hosted the Pakistan Army Chief for lunch, which is unprecedented.
