Relentless rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir has triggered a devastating landslide along the route to the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The perilous conditions on the Trikuta hills have placed visitors at significant risk due to the ongoing downpour. Preliminary reports indicate that approximately 30 individuals have tragically lost their lives in a sudden landslide near the Vaishno Devi shrine. In addition to the fatalities, around 14 people have sustained injuries. Rescue operations are underway to assist those who have been trapped and isolated by the landslip. The Jammu and Kashmir government has mandated the closure of all educational institutions and offices, with the exception of essential services and law enforcement agencies, in response to the severe weather. The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast predicting exceptionally heavy rainfall in the Jammu division over the next 40 hours. Water levels in major rivers, including the Basantar, Tawi, and Chenab, have surged to dangerous levels, heightening concerns among the local populace.
