In a significant victory against left-wing extremism, Jharkhand police recorded the state's largest collective surrender when 27 armed cadres walked into police headquarters in Ranchi. The group comprised hardcore members of CPI-Maoist and JJMP who had operated for years across dense forest belts of Saranda and Kolhan. The ceremony was attended by top brass including DGP Tadasha Mishra and senior CRPF commanders. Among those surrendering were eight highly wanted insurgents carrying cash rewards totaling several lakhs. Six of them had five-lakh-rupee bounties while one carried a two-lakh reward and a woman cadre had a one-lakh bounty. Collectively, the group was booked in 426 cases involving murder, ambushes on security forces, levy collection and explosive attacks. They also deposited a substantial weapons haul including LMG, Insas rifles, SLR rifles and thousands of rounds. Authorities confirmed that all 27 will benefit from the state government's surrender-cum-rehabilitation package that offers cash grants, vocational training and land for housing. Officials believe the event will encourage more underground cadres to shun violence and embrace peaceful livelihoods.
