Heavy rainfall has disrupted normal life in Jharkhand, impacting both urban and rural areas. Roads have been transformed into pools, and residential areas are experiencing flood-like conditions. On August 6th, seven people died due to lightning strikes. Four deaths occurred in the Palamu district, two in Torpa, Khunti district, and one in Chaibasa. The first incident occurred in Kekargarh Jolhabigha village in Panki block of Palamu district, where three women from the same family died while planting paddy in a field. Okida Khatoon, Reshmi Bibi, and Rajvi Bibi were among the deceased. Another death occurred in Nawadih village, Palamu district, where Niranjan Mehta was working in his field. In Torpa block, Khunti district, 35-year-old Philip Aind and his two-and-a-half-year-old son, Aman Aind, died when they sought shelter under a tree during a heavy downpour. Between May 1st and July 31st, over 400 people have died in various natural disasters in the state. Approximately 180 deaths were caused by lightning strikes, 100 by venomous snake bites, and over 100 due to drowning in rivers and ponds, and collapsing of houses.
