Militant Asim Mandal's surrender marks turning point in Jharkhand

Security analysts view the surrender of Asim Mandal as a historic milestone for Jharkhand's effort to become Naxal‑free. Mandal was wanted in more than fifty serious cases spanning Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal, many involving ambushes on security personnel and attacks on police checkpoints. Notable incidents include the March 1, 2026 clash in Marangponga where two security officers were injured, and the April 12, 2025 encounter that claimed the life of a Jharkhand JAGUAR soldier. His cooperation could help locate hidden weapon caches, IEDs and explosive material in the Saranda forest.
