A disturbing incident unfolded at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra, a prestigious institution in Ranchi, Jharkhand, on Wednesday night. An MBA student was harassed by an unidentified individual within the campus. When she resisted, the assailant attacked her with a blade, causing injuries. The incident immediately led to outrage and protests among the students. The injured student was promptly taken to a nursing home for medical treatment. Despite the college administration’s attempts to pacify the situation and the arrival of local police from the BIT OP police station, the students continued their demonstration into the night. They have announced a class boycott for Thursday in protest against the attack. The police from BIT OP police station are also gathering information from the victim. The incident occurred late Wednesday when the student was walking on campus. An unidentified person entered the campus, harassed the student, and then attacked her with a blade when she resisted. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the campus to identify the perpetrator. BIT Mesra was established in 1955 by industrialist B.M. Birla. Spread across approximately 780 acres, BIT Mesra holds deemed university status from UGC and is accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council and the National Board of Accreditation (NBA). President Droupadi Murmu attended the platinum jubilee celebrations on February 15th of this year, marking 70 years of BIT Mesra.
