An incident involving the alleged assault on the daughter-in-law of Babulal Marandi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly and former Chief Minister, has come to light. Her driver sustained serious injuries in the attack. The incident reportedly occurred at the Amrit Nagar Puja Pandal in Hazaribag. The police have registered a case and initiated an investigation. They are currently examining CCTV footage and interviewing witnesses to ascertain the details of the incident.
According to the report filed by Preeti Kisku, Marandi’s daughter-in-law, the incident took place around 7:15 PM when she was traveling from Giridih to Ranchi with her mother-in-law. Her driver was severely injured during the incident. Reportedly, police personnel were present at the scene, but no intervention was made.
The incident unfolded when Preeti’s vehicle got stuck in a procession during the Durga immersion near the Amrit Nagar Puja Pandal. The driver requested the crowd to clear the way, which led to an altercation. Allegedly, some individuals present assaulted the driver. When Preeti intervened, she was also subjected to verbal abuse and misbehavior.
Preeti Kisku has demanded strict action against the members of the Amrit Nagar Puja Committee from the authorities. The Hazaribag police have registered a complaint and launched an investigation. Babulal Marandi was the first Chief Minister of Jharkhand, serving from November 2000 to March 2003 after the state’s formation. He is also the founder of the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik), which he later merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party. The alleged assault on the former CM’s family raises questions about law and order in the state.
