Bihar Gang Behind Ranchi Robbery of Rs 50 Lakh, Police Say
Ranchi police have made significant progress in a robbery worth more than Rs 50 lakh that took place in broad daylight. Six people, including a woman, have been arrested, and police say the group came from Bihar and had planned the crime carefully.
From the accused, police have seized Rs 4.24 lakh in cash, an Innova and a Scorpio, two luxury cars in total, and eight mobile phones. The breakthrough has come after weeks of coordinated investigation.
What Happened in Kanke
The robbery was reported from Adarsh Nagar Colony on Ring Road in the Kanke police station area. On October 13, 2026, between roughly 7 and 8 am, armed criminals entered the house of Ramashankar Prasad. They threatened family members, searched several rooms and escaped with cash, gold and silver jewellery and diamond ornaments. The loot is valued at Rs 50 to 60 lakh.
Months of Surveillance
According to police, the gang had been keeping a close watch on the house since September 2026. Their surveillance revealed that the male members of the family usually stepped out for jogging or other work during the early morning hours, while the house was largely left with women and elderly residents. The gang used this routine to fix the time of the robbery.
On the day of the attack, the accused reached the house in an Innova and carried out the robbery at gunpoint, targeting drawers in different rooms.
Special Team and Investigation
To handle the case, a Special Investigation Team was formed under the guidance of Ranchi SSP Rakesh Ranjan and Rural SP Gaurav Goswami. DSP Amar Kumar Pandey led the team, which used technical evidence, forensic examination and human intelligence to move the investigation forward.
Those Held
The arrested suspects are Bir Bahadur Singh, Sudhir Kumar, Kammo Devi, Chandrashekhar Pandey, Sumit Kumar Singh and Rajneesh Singh. They hail from Bhojpur, Chatra, Buxar and Aurangabad, while some were living in Ranchi and Ramgarh. Police say Bir Bahadur Singh and Rajneesh Singh have criminal backgrounds.
During interrogation, the accused accepted their role and shared information about other participants. Police believe 12 to 14 criminals were involved.
Abandoned Car and Ongoing Raids
After the crime, the gang abandoned the Innova near Kokdoro Chowk in the Pithoria police station area and fled in another vehicle. Both the Innova and the Scorpio have now been recovered.
Police are still looking for the remaining cash and jewellery and are carrying out raids to arrest the fugitives.
