A tragic incident occurred in the Sahibganj district of Jharkhand when a boat carrying passengers capsized in the Ganga River. The boat, which was overloaded with 31 people, overturned, leading to the drowning of four individuals. One body has been recovered, while three others remain missing. Twenty-seven passengers managed to swim to safety, battling the strong currents of the Ganga. The accident took place in the Gadai Diara area, under the Ganga River police station jurisdiction. Reportedly, a group of around 17 tribal youths from a village near the Binduvasini temple and a nearby mountain in the Barharwa block, approximately 70 kilometers from the Sahibganj district headquarters, had gone to catch rats. They crossed the Ganga River by boat from Maharajpur Ganga Ghat in the morning. On their return, other locals also boarded the same boat, causing it to be overloaded with a total of 31 people. The boat lost balance amidst the strong currents and surging waves of the river and capsized. Chaos erupted as the boat overturned. Some brave youths present at the scene jumped into the river to rescue the drowning passengers, but they were unsuccessful. One of the four drowned youths was pulled out, but he had already died. The other three youths are still missing, and local divers and the administration are assisting in the search.
