In Khunti district, approximately 50 kilometers from Ranchi, Jharkhand, a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan, Rahul Manjhi, died by suicide inside the Murhu police station. The incident caused a stir throughout the district. Senior officials, including SP Manish Toppo and DSP Varun Rajak, arrived at the police station immediately after receiving the news, and a high-level investigation has commenced.
In response to the incident, the Khunti District SP suspended Ramdev Yadav, the station officer of the Murhu police station. The BSF jawan reportedly hanged himself in the bathroom of the Murhu police station this morning. The deceased, Rahul Manjhi, was stationed in Siliguri and was on leave, failing to return to his camp.
According to information, Rahul Manjhi was in the Mahil village area when a young woman accused him of harassment. Locals apprehended him in the Meral area late at night and informed the Murhu police. Upon arrival, the police took the jawan into custody on the harassment charges and placed him in the police cell. It was later discovered that on Tuesday, Rahul Manjhi hanged himself using an electrical wire from the bathroom’s ventilator.
The jawan’s family and wife, who arrived at the police station, leveled serious allegations against the police. The district administration has initiated an investigation into the matter, which will be conducted under a magistrate’s supervision, given the deceased’s BSF affiliation. The post-mortem of the deceased jawan will also be carried out under the magistrate’s supervision.
