Deadly Fumes from Illegal Liquor Unit Kill 3 in Hazaribagh Village

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, a rescue attempt turned fatal for a family in the Katkamdag area of Hazaribagh. The incident was triggered when Chameli Devi entered a modified septic tank on her property to check on a batch of illegal Mahua liquor. Unknown to her, the fermentation process in the enclosed, unventilated space had replaced the oxygen with a deadly mix of toxic gases. When she failed to emerge and was found unconscious, her son immediately jumped in to save her, followed shortly by his uncle. Tragically, both men were overpowered by the fumes within seconds. Local residents rushed to the scene after hearing the commotion and managed to rescue Chameli’s husband, who had also attempted to enter the tank. He was rushed to the hospital in a semi-conscious state. The Katkamdag police, led by Station In-charge Saroj Kumar Singh, arrived shortly after to recover the bodies. Police officials confirmed that the site was being used for the illegal manufacture of country-made liquor. The entire village is in a state of shock as they mourn the loss of three lives in this avoidable catastrophe, which serves as a grim reminder of the risks associated with the illicit alcohol trade.
